Apex Global Domination takes on a new meaning...

I'm not quite sure how this happened, but I blame crossover from the day job.  I edit a horse magazine, and therefore had legitimate reason last week to visit a website that sold, among other things, bull whips.  No, it wasn't *that* kind of site.  I mean bull whips for cowboys who actually deal with bulls.  But still...bull whips.  And then our dear Apex Publications Lord High Editor, Jason Sizemore, IMed me with something like this:

Jason: We need more preorders for Wallace's book.  If it doesn't sell better than Unwelcome Bodies, Matt's going to pummel me into a bloody pulp...and Jen's doing pretty well.

Me: Yeah, sorry I haven't gotten that posted on my blog yet. Poor neglected blog.

Jason: *Cracks whip*

You all can see how this is going to end, can't you? Before I think about it, the words are out from my fingers, the enter key is pressed, and there is no taking things back...

Me: How about this for a promo? If we hit 75 copies for the hardcover preorder, I'll buy Matt Wallace a bull whip.

So if you're as amused as I am by the notion of Mr. Wallace becoming the proud owner of an honest-to-something-or-other bull whip, gifted to him by an Apex editor, all you have to do is preorder your limited edition hardcover copy of The Next Fix by April 15th.  It's an incredible collection that will be getting prominent placement in my little home library, and after having just received my hardcover copy of Unwelcome Bodies (thanks Jen and Jason!) I can assure you that the print quality is worth every penny.
